VIGO airshow a success and now has plans for a larger international show in 2007!

Festival Aereo de Vigo 2006 was a very happy day out for the large crowd, estimated to be 220,000 people, who saw a variety of displays including their first foreign aerobatic team. The Airshow included a fine parachute performances from the Papea parachutists as well as a Red Bull parachute drop. The Spanish Armed Forces were able to thrill the crowd with the Harrier and the immaculate Patrulla Aguila, the national team. The spectators also enjoyed the close flying of the Patrulle Reva with their 3 agile little aircraft and the Canadair ‘Water Bomber’ is always a great sight to see!

Pablo Gonzalez, the Airshow Director, is to be congratulated on all his efforts to produce and exciting but safe Airshow and everyone wishes him good luck in his ambitions to broaden the Airshow into a truly international event in 2007. Pablo has acknowledged the useful advice and experience he has gained from his membership of the European Airshow Council and, in turn, the EAC Board has been delighted to be able to support and help Airshow Organisers to put on events for the public.

Things did not all go exactly according to plan when, during its display, the Guardia Civil helicopter crashed into the sea. Any aircraft accident could have had serious consequences. However, the safety and security measures put in place worked very well. The 2 man crew were picked up, unhurt, in less than a minute after ditching and immediate medical care confirmed that they had no injuries.
