Convention EAC2014

logo1 Latest News about the next convention in 2014: the dates are 6-8 March; it will start with a Viper Pilots "Side Meeting" for the current and past F16 Demo Pilots, and, if this is successful, maybe this willbe the basis to organize, in 2015, a wider session for a Solo-display Pilots Side-Meeting to include all fast jet display pilots. Because everybody was very happy with the hotel and facilities in 2013, the Convention will be Antwerp again in the 4* Hotel Radisson Blue Astrid.

What is the EAC’s mission and who should attend?

- The aim of the EAC is to "Promote excellence and safety at Airshows"

- The EAC Board has a Chairman from Belgium and Board members from France, Malta, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain and the UK.

- The European Airshow Council is open to everyone involved in the Airshow world including Display pilots, Performers, Organizers, Military and Civil Authorities.

Who will be there?

Leading figures in the Airshow industry from all over Europe and beyond. Last year we had over 200 delegates from 28 countries and our undoubted success has been stimulated by the continued growth of the organisation. The speakers include multinational, experienced experts as well as those who are learning from experience and sharing them with all delegates in an informal atmosphere with ample opportunities for face-to-face discussions.

Convention Presentations and Discussions

An outline of subjects in the programme is on the website

Safety and quality are fundamental to the theme (Safety First! – don’t reinvent the wheel) and the subjects being presented. By popular request from delegates who attended earlier Conventions, we have managed to secure the return of Des Barker whose outstanding research and analysis of Airshow accidents has earned him a world-wide reputation. He will be joined by Dr Dieter Reisinger, Chairman of the Experimental Test Pilots Safety Seminar.

They will lead an afternoon workshop and pursue one of our strongest themes "Safety First" by drawing upon the results of the Salzburg workshops; The results will be highlighted for discussion to engage all delegates in identifying the causes and to draw lessons for the future.

“Lessons learnt” are always popular presentations which stimulate discussion and display pilots from fast jets to tri-planes will tell of their experiences. In looking forward, the challenges to organisers of reduced military participation being balanced by greater numbers of civilian air displays will be examined as well as the difficulties to be overcome by the performers in these days of financial constraints.

The face-to-face discussions between delegates are judged especially important by all who attend the Convention. Apart from the huge value in exchanging experience, display pilots find new Airshows to attend and organisers meet new performers who are keen to participate in their flying programmes in the coming season!

This year’s Convention has something for everybody and, together with the expanded Exhibition Area in Brussels, offers enormous benefits from networking opportunities amongst all participants. It is an occasion that will deliver value for money and should not be missed.

Timing

Convention sessions are held from 0900–1800 on Friday and from 0900–1300 on Saturday. On the prior Thursday evening the Official Reception is from 1900-2000 (earlier than previous events) and the Airshow Dinner is held on Friday evening at 1930.

New Convention Centre in Brussels in top Hotel

The success and growth of the EAC Convention forced the Board to find a new venue for the annual event. Although we were sad to leave behind our friends in Hasselt and the Sanicole Aero Club we were confident that everyone would enjoy the facilities in the Husa President Park Hotel. The feedback from delegates who attended the new venue has been excellent; the facilities and the ease of getting to the Hotel won very high praise. The Hotel has the added advantage of reducing travel times and costs because it is a very short distance away from the International Airport (via City Express train link) and 2 short train stops away from the Brussels Midi/ Zuid station where Eurostar and Thalys trains arrive from Europe and the UK.

We still hold our traditional “Airshow Dinner” on the Friday evening in our own private dining area which is adjacent to the Exhibition area and the main Convention room. Great shopping opportunities in Brussels city are within walking distance of the Hotel and the connecting railway station (Brussels Nord/ North) is less than 10 minutes walk

Fees for early bookings for the full Convention and the accommodation discounted charges!

Great efforts have been made to minimise costs for the delegates. The Convention Fees include the Official Reception on Thursday evening, all refreshments and meals on Friday and session hospitality. They also include the very popular informal “Airshow Dinner" on the Friday evening, allowing delegates an invaluable opportunity for relaxed discussions. The Early Booking Fee for each delegate is €310 – the same as in 2011 – but it must be paid before 20 January 2012. The special fee for partners is either €110 or €140 depending upon whether the partner attends the presentations during the Convention. Payment after 20 January 2012 will be the full Fee of €355. Fees should be paid by Bank Transfer, Credit Card or PayPal in advance of the Convention.

Note that this payment procedure changes previous arrangements before 2011: we will not accept payment of your Convention Fees at the Convention unless by special prior agreement.

Airshows are about people ...

In the end it is the pilot and his skill that make the aerobatics look so exciting and it is the all the men and women, boys and girls who, in very many cases, freely volunteer to help that make an event so memorable.  We will be running a series of stories about special people ... airshow people ...over the coming months.  Tell us about the people who make your airshow special, you can see here.
