Convention EAC2014

logo1 Latest News about the next convention in 2014: the dates are 6-8 March; it will start with a Viper Pilots "Side Meeting" for the current and past F16 Demo Pilots, and, if this is successful, maybe this willbe the basis to organize, in 2015, a wider session for a Solo-display Pilots Side-Meeting to include all fast jet display pilots. Because everybody was very happy with the hotel and facilities in 2013, the Convention will be Antwerp again in the 4* Hotel Radisson Blue Astrid.

What is the EAC’s mission and who should attend?

-   The aim of the EAC is to “Promote excellence and Safety at Airshows”

-   The EAC Board has a Chairman from Belgium and Board members from France, Malta, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain and the UK.

-   The European Airshow Council is open to everyone involved in the Airshow world including Display pilots, Performers, Organizers, Military and Civil Authorities.

Who will be there?

Leading figures in the Airshow industry from all over Europe and beyond. Last year 160 delegates from 26 countries were represented and its undoubted success has stimulated the continued growth of the organisation.   The speakers include multinational, experienced experts as well as those who are learning from experience and sharing them with all delegates in an informal atmosphere with ample opportunities for face-to-face discussions.

Seminar - postponed

It was planned to hold a seminar to put the spotlight onto Aircrew and discuss their specific needs.  However, the high quality of speakers who have accepted invitations to speak at the main Convention, especially about the human factors that affect both Aircrew and Airshows, has allowed the EAC Board to incorporate the essential elements of the planned seminar into the programme for the whole Convention. With an exciting programme at a new venue the Board decided to concentrate its efforts to ensure the highest quality of presentations at the Convention.  It was also decided that it was sensible in 2011 to constrain the costs of the event as many delegates countries are still facing difficult economic times.

 Convention Presentations and Discussions

Safety and quality are fundamental to the theme (Working together for Safer Airshows) and subjects being presented.  By popular request from delegates who attended earlier Conventions, we are returning to the central theme of “human factors in Airshow safety” and expect to welcome back from South Africa General Des Barker, former Air Force Test Pilot and specialist in Aviation safety, Dr David Stevenson from the RAF Centre of Aviation Medicine and Dr Steve Jarvis, Course Director in Aviation Human Factors at Cranfield University, as well as a new face from the Federal Aviation Administration in the USA; Rogers Shaw is a FAA Team Leader and experienced in pilot education programmes dealing with human factors in aviation.  The bringing together of experts from 3 continents gives a unique opportunity for delegates to learn and contribute to the discussions.   As well as making presentations this strong team will host a Forum for delegates to discuss and question the vital issues they have spoken about. “Lessons Learnt” and practical experiences will be presented by both display pilots and organisers and discussed between delegates and the full programme has much, much more to interest you.

The provisional programme will be notified on the website

The face-to-face discussions between delegates are judged especially important by all delegates to the Convention.  Apart from the huge value in exchanging experience, display pilots find new Airshows to attend and organisers meet new performers who are keen to participate in their flying programmes in the coming season!

New Convention Centre in Brussels in top Hotel

The success and growth of the EAC Convention has forced the Board to find a new venue for the annual event.  Although we are sad to leave behind our friends in Hasselt and the Sanicole Aero Club we are confident that you will enjoy the facilities in this top class Hotel.  It has the added advantage of reducing travel times and costs because it is a very short distance away from the International Airport (via City Express train link) and 2 train stops away from the Brussels Midi/ Zuid station where Eurostar and Thalys trains arrive from Europe and the UK.

We will still hold our traditional ‘Airshow Dinner’ on the Friday evening in our own private dining area which is adjacent to the Exhibition area and the main Convention room.  Great shopping opportunities in Brussels city are within walking distance of the Hotel and the connecting railway station (Brussels Nord/ North) is less than 10 minutes walk

Fees for early bookings for the full Convention and the accommodation discounted charges!

Great efforts have been made to minimise costs for the delegates.  The Convention Fees include the Official Reception on Thursday evening, all refreshments and meals on Friday and session hospitality.  They also include the very popular informal ‘Airshow Dinner” on the Friday evening, allowing delegates an invaluable opportunity for relaxed discussions.  The Early Booking Fee for each delegate is €310.  The special fee for partners is either €110 or €140 depending upon whether the partner attends the presentations during the Convention.  Fees must be paid by Bank Transfer, Credit Card or PayPal in advance of the Convention.  Note that this changes previous procedures: we will not accept payment of your Convention Fees at the Convention.

Airshows are about people ...

In the end it is the pilot and his skill that make the aerobatics look so exciting and it is the all the men and women, boys and girls who, in very many cases, freely volunteer to help that make an event so memorable.  We will be running a series of stories about special people ... airshow people ...over the coming months.  Tell us about the people who make your airshow special, you can see here.
