ITALIAN AIRSHOW GROUP GATHERED IN CODROIPO ON 21/22.12.2016
Under the leadership of Albert Moretti, former leader of the Frecce Tricolori, a group of some 12 people gathered in Codroipo, next to the Air Force Base of Rivolto, homebase of the Frecce Tricolori. Gilbert – our chairman – has paid them a visit and was happy that the Italian colleagues met.
They studied the past airshow season and exchanged experiences. The Italian scene is very different from the rest of Europe and the world, since in Italy, the Aeroclub d’Italia in cooperation and close contact with the Aeronautica Militare(SMA) decide about the organisation of airshows.
The SMA looks at the international schedule and combines the invitations with the tasks of the team as an air force ambassador, such as flypasts at events or flypasts over Italian cities. Combining a choice of the first with the second, they decide when they are available for the rest and inform the Aeroclub d’Italia when the Italian shows are preferably organized in order to have the Italia Air Force support.
Since this is by the end of the year and sometimes even later, this is the moment on which the organizers or organizing cities can send their requests or invitations. This explains why our MOD’s get the Italian invitation so late compared to their usual planning/timing.
The Italian Aeroclub representative said that it is hard to organize an Italian show on an airfield or base. This is why they prefer seaside shows at the moment, with the disadvantage that they can’t charge the public and the financial challenge is big in that case;
The good thing is that display directors and organizers talk to each other and this helps to bring the quality of Italian airshows to the highest level.

ICAS LAS VEGAS – ONE OF THE TOP YEARS
The ICAS convention of Las Vegas was one of the best of the last decade;After the years of problems in which their teams were not allowed to fly airshows the sequestration period, the US airshows go to a renewal of their usual success;The educational programs were of a good quality and the atmosphere was excellent.
NEWS FROM UK BY BADA: AN ONLINE SYSTEM HAS BEEN CREATED FOR AIRSHOWS AND SPECIAL EVENTS APPLICATIONS
From 1st December 2016, the Civil Aviation Authority will only be able to accept applications for Flying Displays and Specials Events, plus Unusual Aerial Activity notifications online.
This online system will replace the existing SRG1303 and SRG1304 form applications and allow you to:
- Make multiple applications
- Save the form to re-use
- Calculate fees automatically
- Pay by credit or debit card so we can start to assess your application immediately
And, as submissions are automatically verified, there is less chance of being able to submit an application without all the information the CAA need to process it. The CAA will continue to accept and process mail and email applications using SRG1303 and SRG1304 that are received or post marked 30 November 2016. But applications from the 1 December 2016 will have to be made online. As the majority of payments are already made by credit or debit card the CAA will be removing the BACS payment facility in the near future.
You can find more information on BADA website: www.caa.co.uk/General-aviation/Displays,-events-and-activities/Flying-displays-and-special-events/
